‘Ey up’, it’s Yorkshire Day!!

We are as proud to be Yorkshire ‘born and bred’ as we are to provide a wide range of award-winning marketing solutions for automotive clients across the whole of the UK.

It all started for us with humble beginnings in Sheffield, South Yorkshire back in 1989 when we secured automotive clients up and down the country and also in Scotland.  Since then, we have grown from strength to strength and now operate from three office locations across the UK and formed MBbluesky Group.

Partnering with top dealer groups, independent dealerships, prestige franchises and car supermarkets, we help our clients to sell cars, vans, bikes and trucks across all marketing channels and to be successful with their marketing.

It’s a journey that we are extremely proud of, but we are equally as proud of our Yorkshire roots. So, to acknowledge Yorkshire Day 2022, we would like to share with you some of the reasons we believe Sheffield is one of the most incredible places in Yorkshire.

Floods keep occurring but we keep evolving

The UK’s worst flood in history happened in 1864 when a crack in the Dale Dike Reservoir caused vast amounts of water to leak into the city and surrounding areas. Sheffield's city centre escaped serious damage, however the Wicker (where we had offices for many years), located just outside of the centre, was completely ruined by the water. A positive from ‘The Great Sheffield flood’ was that the unfortunate incident drove the revolution in dam engineering, aiming to prevent similar floods occurring again in the future.

However, when heavy rain hit again one morning in 2007, we were forced to evacuate our building (you'll be pleased to know wasn't on the Wicker) as water began rising from the floor to desk-top level. Not before we had delivered our final adverts to their end destination though!!

Some may question why we think this is special and why we stay located in Sheffield?

Simple: we think this shows our tenacity and loyalty. We now operate from brand-new office facilities located on Shepcote Lane, Sheffield, (near the famous Meadowhall Shopping Centre) where we are happily homed and here to stay looking after our automotive clients located across all regions of the UK.

Stainless steel was invented in Sheffield

Little bit of famous history, the ‘Steel City’ has been world-renowned for producing steel since the 19th Century Industrial Revolution. It’s steel was used for machinery, buildings and bridges across the globe, including the iconic Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

But in 1913, Harry Brearley from Sheffield invented the first true stainless steel – an innovation that meant Sheffield cutlery became rightly regarded as the finest in the world.

Even though today the local steel industry isn’t what it once was, Sheffield still produces as much as half of the world’s surgical blades used in hospitals.

This shows the incredible impact this city still has, helping to save lives across the world with its high-quality steel products, so we salute this fact about Sheffield.

Sheffield has the world’s oldest football ground

As well as Sheffield FC – officially the world’s oldest surviving independent football club, formed in 1857 – the city is also home to Sheffield Hallam Football Club (formed 1860), which is the second oldest football club in the world.

Hallam has played at their ground at Crosspool since the very beginning, earning the Sandygate Road pitch a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest ground in the world.

We think that’s pretty special and we have lots of football fanatics here at MB House who think so too!

Famous Millennium Gallery & Winter Garden

The famous Millennium Gallery, located in the heart of our city, is ranked among the most popular free visitor attractions in the UK. The Millennium Gallery is located next to the equally famous Winter Garden, one of the largest temperate glasshouses in the UK and the largest urban glasshouse in Europe.

The Winter Garden is a wonderful place to visit especially if you love plants....exhibiting over 2000 plants from all around the world, Winter Garden offers peace and tranquillity when you need to free your head from automotive and marketing campaigns.

Home to the Crucible Theatre

If you’re not a footy fan, you will be pleased to know that Sheffield has made a mark with another sport too. Every year since 1977, the World Snooker Championship has been held in Sheffield's Crucible Theatre, making our city the number one destination in the world when it comes to the game played on green baize. We have many snooker fans amongst us at MB House.

And when the snooker isn’t on, the theatre itself is one of the most loved venues in the UK, boasting a distinctive stage that’s been popular with both actors and audiences since its opening in 1971.

Sheffield has four trees for every person

Can you believe that Sheffield is home to more than two million trees? We couldn't believe this either! That’s a significant amount of trees and the highest ratio of trees to people for any city in Europe. This probably explains why Sheffield is so green!

Sheffield also boasts some magnificent parks too, in fact it has around 250 parks, gardens and woodland areas for people to visit and enjoy. We often host some of our corporate 'away days' in some of Sheffield's beautiful parks.

Some of the most popular places amongst us include the wonderful Botanical Gardens, Peace Gardens with its fountains, Norfolk Heritage Park and Endcliffe Park boasting the statue of Queen Victoria.

Juicy stats

Sheffield is made up of seven giant hills and the tallest one is around 550 metres in height. That’s a fair way to climb but maybe a challenge which we can take on as part of our next team building day!?

With a population of 735,292, the City of Sheffield is England’s third largest district authority.

No wonder we are so proud to be based in Sheffield – what’s not to love about Yorkshire?!
